Yingying Chen Selected as Top Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the Year by IAOTP
Professor Yingying (Jennifer) Chen, NAI Fellow, IEEE Fellow, Professor Peter D. Cherasia Faculty Scholar and Professor at Rutgers University has been selected as Top Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Year 2023 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).
While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, other affiliations, and contributions to their communities. All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.
With over 20 years of experience as a seasoned and trusted professor, Dr. Chen has certainly proven herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field of computer and electrical engineering. Currently, Professor Yingying Chen is a Professor and Department Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rutgers University. She serves as the Associate Director of Wireless and Information Networking Lab (WINLAB), a world-class wireless research center. She is the Peter D. Cherasia Endowed Faculty Scholar at Rutgers University. Dr. Chen possesses a diverse academic background encompassing Physics, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering. Her interests encompass Applied Machine Learning, Mobile Healthcare, Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber Security and Privacy, Mobile Computing and Sensing. Her work has been licensed to multiple industry companies and reported in numerous media outlets, indicating the important societal impact of her work in broader audiences. Professor Chen received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rutgers University.
Her impressive repertoire of past roles includes a tenured position as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Stevens Institute of Technology. She was granted early promotion twice at Stevens Institute of Technology. The first promotion elevated her from the position of Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, while the second promotion advanced her from Associate Professor to Full Professor. While at Stevens Insitute, she led the interdisciplinary Data Analysis and Information Security (DAISY) Lab, which made fundamental contributions in machine learning and data mining initiatives. She was Stevens’ ECE Department’s Graduate Program Director for Information and Data Engineering (IDE) and Networking and Information Systems (NIS). Dr.Chen was also a Princeton visiting professor. She also has extensive industrial experiences. She researched, designed, and developed network and security technologies at Alcatel-Lucent (now Nokia) before joining Stevens. Her work contributed to the network management standards and system performance modeling and analysis.
In addition to being a professor, she has published several books, book chapters, and more than 200 journal articles and refereed conference papers. She is also actively involved in her community. She serves on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals, including IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, and ACM Transactions on Privacy and Security.
Throughout her illustrious career, Professor Chen has received numerous awards and was recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership as an esteemed professor. This year she will be considered for a feature article in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and for the Empowered Woman award from the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). She will be awarded Top Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Year 2023 at IAOTP’s Annual Awards Gala at the iconic Plaza Hotel in NYC this December. She has received numerous honors during her career, including seven best paper awards in top ACM and IEEE conferences.

Looking back, Dr. Chen attributes her success to her perseverance, work ethic, and the mentors she has had along the way. In the future, she hopes to continue sharing her passion for computer and electrical engineering with her students.
