WASHINGTON, DC – The National Capital Society of Plastic Surgeons (NCSPS), which supports the research, academic, development and international activities of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), named renowned cosmetic surgeon Christopher D. Knotts, MD, FACS, President of the society. Dr. Knotts took office at the society’s last meeting of 2019, in Washington, D.C., and will serve for one year.

“I am deeply honored to have been chosen to serve as the president of The National Capital Society of Plastic Surgeons,” said Knotts. “With great enthusiasm, I look forward to leading The NCSPS during the coming year to advance research and innovations in plastic surgery, with a special emphasis on patient safety. I am especially excited to pursue development opportunities, as well as build bridges with our international colleagues.”

Knotts is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures for the face, breasts and body at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, Virginia. He is board certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). In addition to his awarded work at Austin-Weston, Knotts volunteers for facial trauma calls several days a month to help local DC metro-area patients who need expert care.

Knotts received his undergraduate degree in journalism with a minor in biochemistry from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. After graduating with honors, he was granted early admission to medical school at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After medical school, he was quickly accepted into one of the most competitive surgical programs in the nation, an accelerated 5-year residency in general and plastic surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After graduating from this prestigious residency program, Knotts completed an ASAPS endorsed fellowship in aesthetic and cosmetic surgery at the Hunstad-Kortesis Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Charlotte, North Carolina.

As an associate at Austin-Weston, a large private practice group of four plastic surgeons devoted to cosmetic surgery, Knotts has published several articles on thigh lifting and liposuction and lectured about around-the-mouth surgery at the annual American Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting. His desire to advance the plastic surgery field through research and academics began early in his career. During his fellowship at the Hunstad-Kortesis Center for Cosmetic Surgery, he published numerous medical articles on arm lifting and liposuction and book chapters on various body contouring topics, including the fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty and the bra line back lift. In addition, he received awards for his extensive research on facial reconstruction after gunshot wounds during his time at the UNM medical school.

Knotts has received numerous awards and accolades for his work in plastic and cosmetic surgery and is widely recognized by his peers and patients for his vast expertise. Knotts group practice was nominated Best of DC, Best of NOVA, and Best of Virginia and received the distinction of Top 1% of practices nationwide as an Allergan Black Diamond facility. In addition, he has received the Honor Roll Award by Healthgrades and has won several awards from Vitals including the Patients’ Choice Award, On-Time Doctor Award, and Compassionate Doctor Recognition.
